Extended Windows 7 Support Is Coming For More Customers!

In the future, all owners of Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise can order paid extended support. This will give them security patches up to three years after the release. This was previously reserved for owners of volume licenses.

Microsoft will also offer its fee-based Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 7 to small and medium-sized businesses. That announced Microsoft 365 boss Jared Spataro. The security updates will continue to provide customers with patches and support for the expiring operating system, which is scheduled to shut down on January 14, 2020. "While many of you are well on your way to getting Windows 10 up and running, we realize everyone is at a different stage of the upgrade process," writes Jared Spataro.

So far, the ESUs have only been promised for larger companies that use a Windows 7 Enterprise or Professional volume license. With the change from 1 December 2019 all owners of a version of Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise are to be able to order the extended security updates. The offer becomes part of the cloud solution provider program. Customers should be able to work together with their respective partner system houses and deliver the ESU.

2023 is over
A maximum of three one-year extensions of support is possible until the ESU expires on January 2023. The price is initially at $ 50 per interval, but consistently more expensive. According to a support document, the updates are not designed for Office 2010. Its software support is therefore scheduled to end on January 14, 2020.

Spataro does not miss the occasion to promote Microsoft 365 once again. The offer includes a license that includes Windows 10 and Office 365 in one
